Term 4 Week 1 of 11
Friday, 11th October 2024
Message From the Principal
Dear Parents/Carers,
A big welcome back to Term 4. I had planned to write about my pilgrimage in the “Footsteps Of St Paul.” I thought I would leave that to next week and write more about our exciting news for Jess Davis!
As discussed in yesterday's communication, Jess has been appointed as the Principal of Mother Teresa Catholic Primary School in Mt Ridley.
On behalf of our whole community, I wanted to congratulate Jess on this great achievement and share that Mt Ridley's gain is certainly Resurrection’s loss. I know, as we all do, that Jess will make an excellent principal and take with her all the learning and inspiration from her wonderful journey at our school and the other schools she has worked at.
As soon as we know a beginning date for Jess at Mt Ridley, we will share it with you. There will certainly be time for us to say a proper farewell. We will share the time and date for this with you.
In the coming days I will post the advertisement for another inspiring leader to replace Jess and continue the wonderful work she has led, especially in the area of student wellbeing and pastoral care. We will look within our school and cast the net wide to find the best replacement.
Best wishes
Deputy Principal: Wellbeing & Community
Dear Parents & Carers,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our incredible community for their offers of congratulations to the recent news of my appointment as Principal at Mother Teresa Primary School in Mt Ridley (Craigieburn). Whilst I am very excited to move into this position of Principal, leaving Resurrection after nearly 14 years will be very challenging indeed.
Some of you may know that I started my time at Resurrection as a CRT whilst pregnant and on maternity leave. I then was given the opportunity to be a specialist teacher, classroom teacher, Mathematics Leader, Wellbeing Leader, Deputy Principal and last year and through parts of this year Acting Principal.
I am so grateful for the opportunities that have been presented to me over my time at Resurrection and the partnerships that I have formed with our parent community. Your trust and support is something that I have valued and hold very dearly.
There will be opportunities over the coming weeks to say thank you and farewell and to also reflect on the wonderful opportunities and experiences that I have had whilst being a staff member at Resurrection.
Finally, I would like to sincerely thank Fr Gerard and Adrian for their continued support, encouragement and belief in my Principalship aspirations. I am very grateful for both their wisdom and counsel.
God Bless,
Deputy Principal: Learning & Organisation
Term 4 Family Curriculum Overviews
As per the feedback received from the community earlier this year regarding curriculum overviews, our wonderful teaching teams are finalising family overviews that will be published to Seesaw early in Week 2. These overviews will provide you with some insight into the learning that will take place at school in Term 4, reminders and important dates relevant to each year level. It will also outline some ideas for how you can encourage discussions about learning at home and link school learning to the wider world!
Learning Diversity
Thank you to the families who have already returned a signed copy of their child’s personalised learning plan. If you haven’t had the chance to do so yet, please return the signed copy to the school as soon as possible.
Thank You
2025 Planning
Planning for the 2025 school year is well under way! Please email the office (office@rskingspark.catholic.edu.au) if your children are intending on leaving Resurrection at the end of year. Our 2025 school calendar will also be published shortly - stay tuned!
2024 Art Show- ‘Community’
The students of Resurrection Primary School have worked very hard this year to learn about art concepts such as the ‘Elements of Art’ and ‘Principles of Design’. They have created many different styles of art inspired by different art techniques, famous artists, famous movements and their own passions.
In order to recognise and celebrate their artistic learning, we are hosting an Art Show so that you can share in all of their hard work and creativity.
On the night, we will have a cultural fashion show to highlight all the wonderful communities that make up our school, face painters, caricature artists, a silent auction to purchase your favourite class piece, a coffee van and of course lots of art!
If you are interested in participating in our cultural fashion show, please fill out the Operoo form.
Here are the important details:
Where: Resurrection Primary School Hall and Junior building
When: 30th October 2024
Time: 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm
When walking through our art show, ask your child some of the following questions:
“How did you make this?”
“What is your favourite piece and why?”
“What can you tell me about your artwork?”
Here’s a little sneak peak of some of our artwork so far, we look forward to seeing you then!
This week, as part of our inquiry unit How the World Works, our Preps had an exciting adventure at LegoLand Discovery Centre!
At LegoLand, our Preps had a blast exploring interactive building zones, where they designed and built unique creations using Lego bricks. They tested their engineering skills on the Earthquake Tables and raced cars down ramps at the Build & Test zone.
The day also included a visit to the breathtaking Lego City, made up of over 1.5 million bricks! The students were amazed and left feeling super inspired to create something incredible of their own.
2025 Student Leadership
It is a very exciting time of the year where the Grade 4 and 5 students are preparing to run for a leadership position in 2025. This week students have been provided with a nomination form to show their interest to apply for a leadership position in 2025.
Students have also been provided with the following timeline regarding the election process for 2025 leadership positions.
You will find a summary of the leadership roles available in 2025 on the following page.
I thank you in advance for encouraging your child/children to apply for a position of leadership in 2025 and helping them apply for a position that best resonates with their personal qualities and attributes.
If you have any questions regarding the 2025 Leadership election process, please contact me at ksalloum@rskingspark.catholic.edu.au

SUNDAY GOSPEL
This Sunday’s reading is from the Holy Gospel according to Mark (10:17 - 30)
Go and sell whatever you have and come follow me.
Jesus was setting out on a journey when a man ran up, knelt before him and put this question to him, ‘Good master, what must I do to inherit eternal life?’ Jesus said to him, ‘Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. You know the commandments: You must not kill; You must not commit adultery; You must not steal; You must not bring false witness; You must not defraud; Honour your father and mother.’ And he said to him, ‘Master, I have kept all these from my earliest days.’ Jesus looked steadily at him and loved him, and he said, ‘There is one thing you lack. Go and sell everything you own and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.’ But his face fell at these words and he went away sad, for he was a man of great wealth.
Jesus looked round and said to his disciples, ‘How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!’ The disciples were astounded by these words, but Jesus insisted, ‘My children,’ he said to them, ‘how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.’ They were more astonished than ever. ‘In that case’ they said to one another, ‘who can be saved?’ Jesus gazed at them. ‘For men’ he said, ‘it is impossible, but not for God: because everything is possible for God.’
Peter took this up. ‘What about us?’ he asked him. ‘We have left everything and followed you.’ Jesus said, ‘I tell you solemnly, there is no one who has left house, brothers, sisters, father, children or land for my sake and for the sake of the gospel who will not be repaid a hundred times over, houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and land – not without persecutions – now in this present time and, in the world to come, eternal life.’
Gospel Reflection
Jesus reminds us in this gospel that to join him in bringing about the reign of God requires absolute commitment and a willingness to give up that which is most precious to us. The rich man who approached Jesus was genuine in his desire to fulfil all the requirements of the Law to attain eternal life. Jesus quoted to him all the commandments that deal with right relationships with others. The man is able to tick these off and assure Jesus that he has been doing this since childhood – a pretty big claim in the first place! Then Jesus ‘looked steadily at him and loved him’ – he looked on him with the eyes of love; the eyes that see to the heart of a person, and in that look knew what was most important to the man. Jesus could tell by his dress no doubt that the man was wealthy and so it is this aspect of the man’s life that Jesus chooses to challenge him about. This gospel shouldn’t necessarily be read as a condemnation of wealth – rather, it is the man’s inability to surrender his wealth that Jesus challenges. Jesus sees to the heart of the man and asks if he is willing to give up that which is most important in his life. The man is unable to do what Jesus asks of him and goes away sad. Why sad? He’s sad because he knows that he has been tested and failed. He knows that what he genuinely desired was within his reach but he needed to let go of his position, his status, his wealth, to be able to grasp what he desired in both hands.
From the perspective of … The Disciples
‘What about us?’ Peter cried. The disciples were staggered that Jesus could turn away the rich man so easily and declare how difficult it is to enter into the kingdom of God. They suddenly see themselves in the shoes of the rich man: what more do they have to do? They’ve left their homes and families to traipse after Jesus, believing that this sacrifice would be enough to assure them a place in the kingdom, and suddenly they are faced with doubts. Has it all been worth it? Jesus reminds them that if they have followed him for all the right reasons then their reward is assured.
Have you thought? The Gospel of Prosperity
There are those within the ranks of Christianity who preach what is sometimes referred to as a ‘gospel of prosperity’. They claim that wealth is a sign of favour, or approval, from God. They feel that if a Christian person is wealthy then they must be living a ‘good’ life that God is rewarding through material possession. They use this as justification for further accumulation of wealth. We can see from today’s gospel that Jesus would have something to say about such an interpretation! Jesus reminds us that our reward is not in this world in the form of wealth and material possessions, but in eternal life.
Gospel Focus – Sacrifice
Sacrifice is a term that gets used quite a lot in religion and yet it’s a term with which modern society is very uncomfortable. We’re not really ‘into’ sacrifice. We’re much more into feeling good about ourselves and comfortable in our existence. Jesus called on the rich man to make a sacrifice – to let go of what he really loved and valued. What Jesus really called the man to do was to place his trust in Jesus and not in material wealth – that was the sacrifice he was called to make. Ultimately, the man couldn’t do that! He couldn’t let go of certainty and security and entrust his life and soul to Jesus.
Happy to share that Daniel’s team won Keilor Basketball association 2024 Winter season grand final for Under 14
